Words That Heal Today
Published in Paperback by Dodd Mead (November, 1900)
Author: Ernest Holmes
Average review score:

Our own available Power to heal
Was Jesus the great example or the the great exception? Holmes asks--and answers--this question, in an in-depth review of the power of Love and Law that allowed Jesus to do the healing that he did.

Jesus himself said that we will be able to do greater things than he. It is these same powers that will allow us to do them and Holmes explains what these powers are and how we are to realize them in our lives.

A great crossover book for the person whose life has been steeped in Christian teachings, but realizes that there is something more: a practical use of the teachings of Jesus.

Worldview: The History of a Concept
Published in Paperback by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (July, 2002)
Authors: David K. Naugle and Arthur Frank Holmes
Average review score:

Excellent Book on Different Worldviews
Having read this book for Dr. Naugle's Philosophy class, I got this book first hand. It was one of our textbooks for his class, and it was a hard read. It was his dissertation, and the language in it can tend to be obscure. He sets out to analyze various worldviews from various perspectives. Being distinctly Christian, Dr. Naugle has three chapters on various Christian worldviews (Chapters 1,2,9). But, his philosophical insights into it at just short of amazing. This is a tremendous book from a tremendous man (And when you get through with it you will definitely know what 'Weltanschauung' means!)

Your Trustee Duties - a must in your library
With all the living trusts out there, this book is an absolute requirement for your library. It will assist you in planning for and then executing your duties as trustee. It combines knowledge from attorneys, case law, income tax code and real life situations. The author has a keen sense of dry accountant-type humor which clarifies serious situations. Step-by-step help, but much more than a simple checklist. The examples will also assist you in avoiding landmines from failing to fulfill your duties by allowing you to clearly understand your obligations and a time-line for execution of them.

The Beekeeper's Apprentice
Published in Paperback by Bantam Books (August, 1996)
Author: Laurie R. King
Average review score:

Highly Recommend....Lovely, textured writing
What a great find! Laurie R. King has a wonderfully nuanced voice. I'll admit I usually enjoy first person narratives with female protagonists. Mary Russell is one of the great protagonists.
It's refreshing how Laurie R. King emphasizes Mary Russell's rational, logical intellect. Kudos. Sherlock Holmes has met his counterpart in Mary Russell. I enjoyed the growing relationship between Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes (Please note this story is not a romance.). I particularly enjoyed the format of the novel with a number of cases, rather than just one. That format effectively charts the development of the characters.
However, in the story, Holmes was portrayed as a brilliant and empathetic person. I didn't think it realistic that his intellectual arrogance would be tempered by a high degree of empathy. In my experience, that's not very common. Maybe he shows understated empathy. King does drop enough clues late in the book for the reader to piece together the identity of the villain. But the hints are deliberate and do not detract from the storytelling.
I've read the second book in the series, A Monstrous Regiment of Women and liked it almost as well as this one. This novel, set for the most part in Britain, uses British language and spelling. If you like Agatha Christie's mysteries you will like Laurie R. King's.
Thanks Ms. King for adding a fresh, feminist perspective to the the Sherlock Holmes canon!

A Wonderful New Twist on Sherlock Holme's World
I've been a fan of Conan Doyle portrait of that great detective Sherlock Holmes -through the eyes of Dr. Watson- since I was fifteen. So when I came across this book in my local library, I picked it up. My hopes were not very high, but after the first chapter I was hooked. Obviously, this portrait is not exactly the same as the one Sir Arthur painted, but the differences only serve to enhance the character. This Holmes is much more human, much more troubled, much more in need of another human being but without leaving behind the intelligence and keen powers of observation that are his trademark. And Mary Russell is a perfect delight. As intelligent and as keen as Holmes, at first she wanders about alone, without support, without help, without love from her only living relative. Holmes will cover all those needs, and more besides. After finishing the book, I bought it for myself and bought all the other four books in the series.

A spectacular piece of work!
I read "The Beekeeper's Apprentice" about a year ago. When I first glanced at the blurb, I was tempted to laugh. Imagine undermining the great Sherlock Holmes by teaming him up with a fifteen-year old girl! It was almost too ridiculous to believe. Nevertheless, I borrowed the book from my local library, and since then, it has become one of my fabourite books ever. I bought my very own copy of it three months ago.

The story is amazing. Supposedly written by an aged Mary Russell (a fifteen year-old girl at the beginning of the story), the book is a recount of her life from her meeting with the fifty-three-year-old Sherlock Holmes, to when she is about 19. Her narration, what she chooses to dwell on in her telling, and what she merely skips over, not only reveals to the reader which incidents most live in her memory, but also makes the story fast-paced, and vividly exciting.

The book also shows a quite different Sherlock Holmes to the stories of Conan Doyle. While every bit as brilliant and perceptive, the Holmes we see through Mary Russell's eyes is very much human, capable of mistakes and intense emotion. Much as I tend to idolise the Legend of Conan Doyle, I can't help but warm towards the picture painted by Mary Russell far more than that of the good Doctor.

I was miserable when I finished "The Beekeeper's Apprentice", so much so that I was almost crying. And I have to admit that I cried during the book, too, and still do when I reread it. I have read the other Russell-Holmes novels, but none come close to this, the first. Such is the fate of all but the most brilliant of serials. This is Laurie R. King's masterpiece, her other works cannot compare.

The Hound of the Baskervilles
Published in Audio Cassette by Commuters Library (February, 1998)
Authors: Arthur Conan Doyle and Ralph Cosham
Average review score:

One of the best mysteries ever!
The Hound of the Baskervilles was an excellent book, and one of the best mysteries I have ever read. Holmes, the superhuman detective, is asked to investigate the death of Charles Baskerville, which many believe to be the work of the ferocious hound, a curse brought about by the misdeeds of Hugo Baskerville. When Sir Henry inherits the estate, Holmes must solve the mystery before another Baskerville meets his end!

This novel has one of the most complex plots of any mystery, with many unexpected twists, and is one that will keep you reading until its suspenseful, engrossing climax. The setting is also well put together, and the danger of the foggy moor only adds to the drama.

This story had huge appeal for me, largely because of the believability of the characters. Holmes, Watson, and Henry are very realistic - and people that I would want to know. Holmes was so real to many readers, that they actually wrote to 221 Baker Street, his fictional address!

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was not only a great mystery writer, but a wonderful novelist as well. This novel is proof that he really deserved the title of knight!

Like Classics, Read this Book
Follow Sherlock Holmes and his trusty colleague, Watson, in one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's best murder mystery ever, The Hound of the Baskervilles. Watch while Sherlock Holmes uncovers the mysteries of the Baskerville Hall of London.

You and Sherlock Holmes get to discover all the clues of Charles Baskerville's mysterious death and protect Henry Baskerville from being murdered. You listen to stories of the notorious hound. Finally, before its too late, decide who is behind the murder of Charles Baskerville. Was it the baronet, Mr. And Mrs. Stapleton, or was it possibly Laura Lynes? Find out in the end.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle keeps you in suspense throughout the book. He keeps bringing in more leads to the story. The author also provides an interesting and intriguing topic with a tall tale creature tied in.

This book is wonderful and would be best appreciated by all readers 10 and up.

This Hound Does Bark
As a mystery writer with my debut novel in its initial release, I always appreciate the classics of the mystery genre. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's works are among the best of the genre, and THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES is Doyle's best novel. Those readers expecting to find in this book the famous Holmes line about the dog that didn't bark will be disappointed. That nonbarking dog isn't here. It's in one of the Holmes short stories. What we have here is a moody work set among the moors with a strong and obvious Gothic influence upon Doyle by the mystery genre's founder, Edgar Allan Poe. Holmes and his supporting cast are all in fine form. The plot works, as does the setting and the tone. THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES has endured. It will continue to endure in the future. It is a classic that people actually read.

B-More Careful: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Meow Meow Productions (01 December, 2001)
Author: Shannon Holmes
Average review score:

Keeping it R.E.A.L on the streets
If you thought you knew what the streets were about, there is still much more to be realized. Shannon Holmes bears all in this novel where nothing is sugar coated, and every action has its consequence. Holmes keeps it real in this vivid book about the life of one luscious, low-down girl named Netta. Living in the thugged out streets of Baltimore with no father and a junkie for a mother, Netta must find a way to escape from the madness that is her life. Finding some comfort in clothes and money Netta takes her first steps into the "game". When she meets Mimi the two of them bring it like it has never been brought before. Surrounded by the rest of the Pu**y Pound, they rule the streets where no good is the only good, and every day is an opportiunity to be rich. B-More Careful is a page turning thriller full of suspense, action, deception, betrayal, and revenge. As a contemporary novel, B-More Careful touches on everyday issues that spark hours of endless conversation. It was definitely a great read. Shannon Holmes should write a sequel!

Dont' Be Tricked Read B-More Careful
I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK BECAUSE I COULDN'T RELATE TO THE LIFE STYLE OF THE STREETS OF BALTIMORE OR THE WAY NETTA AND MIMI'S FAMILY LIFE AND ENVIROMENT WAS. I THOUGHT YOU CAN ONLY LIKE A BOOK IF YOU CAN RELATE TO IT...BUT I WAS WRONG. I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK AND ONCE I GOT PAST THE FIRST FEW SLOW CHAPTERS, I WAS HOOKED AND I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. ALSO I COULD RELATE TO THE BOOK IN MY OWN WAYS. THE WAY THAT NETTA WAS WITH LOVE AND THE WAY THEIR FRIENDSHIP (HER AND MIMI'S) WAS I COULD RELATE TO IN A LOT OF WAYS. THE CHARACTER BLACK REPRESENTS REAL DRUG DEALERS AND WHY THEY DEAL DRUGS. THE BOOK SPLIT UP THE LIVES OF THE CHARACTERS IN SEPARATE SECTIONS AND SHOWED THE SIDES OF "THE PUSSY POUND", THE GUYS THEY LEFT AN IMPRESSION ON, AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT GAVE A VIVID DESCRIPTION OF EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING THEY WERE ABOUT, EVEN DOWN TO THE SCARS ON THEIR FACE. IT REMINDS ME OF "THE COLDEST WINTER EVER", BUT IT IS MUCH MORE INTERESTING. IT WAS ENTERTAINING AND ALSO TEACHES PEOPLE STUFF. I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK AND I THINK YOU GUYS WILL TOO, SO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY READ IT. I WOULD RATE IT A 5.

a must read!
first i am going to say this the authour is a man. i am saying this only because in the reviews i read said ms.holmes and i was on the website of terri woods and shannon holmes and he is the author. second i want to say for those who write reviews please do not tell the book. i read one person's review and they were telling the beginning of the story i mean telling the book on what happened. which is not cool. just tell people certain details to a certain degree. well anyway this book is wonderful! it has a lot of action drama and it is definelty a page turner i guarantee that. do not judge a book by its cover it looks like its boring but it is the bomb! i give it five stars because the author didnt hold anything back. and it does have a moral to the story. dont mess with the game, cuz its not a game you may be on top but you will hit the bottom for sure.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Published in Paperback by Perennial Press (December, 1999)

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes--A Great Adventure
I rate this book 4 stars because it reel you in on a hook and it will not let go until you have read the whole thing. Its a keeper any person thats read it would say. It on the egde, exciting, and most of all it is very clever. Did I tell you that it is also Adventurous.

The book is about two main people. One is the great Sherlock Holmes and his ever faithful Dr. Watson. They go on Adventures together and make there murder look like a fool for even thing to fool the great team.

A quick example from the book is a evil uncle and two women in the house that the woman own. One day one woman was found dead and the local law enforcement had no clue until the great team of Sherlock and Watson were on the case. ...
That is just one of the many stories told. So if you want a fast pace book. Read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

Great Classic Literature
This is a faithful reprinting of the greatest mystery book(s) ever written. It is well written, powerful, captivating, and puts the Hardy Boys to shame. Holmes solves mysteries in a believable (if difficult) fashion that never fails to grip someone from start to finish. The stories are so well written, in fact, that when Sherlock Holmes "died" fans responded by rioting in the streets of London. The Queen insisted that Conan Doyle bring back his famous character, and so here he is. While we might not be willing to riot in the streets if Holmes died today, we can still feel loyalty towards the famous character, and the legacy that Conan Doyle left behind in these books.

If your looking for action and adventure read this book
Dear peers, My opinion is that the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is one of the best book I have ever read.Sherlock Holmes is a good book because it challenges your knowledge. The plot are full of mystery and action. As I read the book, I could not put it down because I felt that I was Sherlock solving the case. Sherlock was one of the best in his time peroid. This information can be found at Conan Doyle's website. The author was known for his intelligence and ways of solving mysteries. For an example in the Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes Mr. Waston said "you are the best". He was admired all over Scotland. He always wanted a mystery to challenge his intelligence. before the person even knew what they would say he knew. He never told them, he would just wait and try to catch them in the act. Some people say Sherlock is nosey and rude. For an example he didn't listen to the man when he asked him what his daughter was doing in his office. Another example he went into someone basement because he was sure the criminals were making a tunnel to rob the city bank. Sometimes when he lies, the lies are to help other people from imbarassment.for example in the case of the star spangled banner. He said that the man got bit by his pet snake when he was playing with it. Sherlock figured the girl had been through enough and If he was to tell her it would make her depreesed and imbarass if someone should ask her about the incident. If you are in to mystery and adventure then The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes is the book for you. Your'e not be able to put the book down after you start to read it. You should not judge a book by it's cover: It may look oldfashion but the stories are great even in modern times.
